What I Did in Edinburgh – Day 4

Hello!   If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I visited Edinburgh at the end of March.  Whilst I shared a few snaps at the time of what I was doing and getting up to, I thought that I would bring you a full and detailed account of my week away (ok, it was more like 4 days but a week sounded better!).  In order to keep things interesting, I’ve decided to split the posts into days to avoid a long and winding post.   You can read Day 1 here .    You can read Day 2 here .   You can read Day 3 here .   Let’s wrap things up with Day 4!

Edinburgh – Day 4

Edinburgh - Frankensteins 1 - Famous in Japan

For our leaving lunch, we headed to the Frankenstein Diner .  We originally wanted to go here the night before, but it didn’t seem that they were serving food when we went (not to mention the creepy men at the bar, eurgh!).  We were so keen to go here that we practically waited outside for it to open.

I had the Cajun Chicken Burger, whereas Hannah put me to shame and tried Haggis!  And enjoyed it!  I liked the Cajun Chicken Burger, even if it did get a bit messy at times.   Hey, if you can’t eat a messy burger in front of your best friend, when can you ever?

I thought I had at least one picture of Edinburgh Dungeons but it seems I must have imagined it… or deleted it!   *goes into a sulk with self* We squeezed in a trip to the Dungeons before our train, as the Dungeons is practically next door to the station.  I expected the Dungeons to be similar to Edinburgh Castle, and that it would be a museum of some sort.   I was wrong!

Edinburgh Dungeons is what I would describe as an “interactive tour”.  You are escorted around the Dungeons by a “character” during certain periods of time.   One example I can think of is getting on a boat (yes, you get ON A BOAT) to catch the legend of Sawney Bean.  I do not want to go into the specifics of that folklore tale as it honestly makes me want to cry when I think about it.  Whilst we were on the boat, you hear screams, shouts, gunshots and “I AM SAWNEY BEAN” chanted over and over.  I can still hear it now *sniffs* .  Once again, I was clinging on to Hannah for dear life.  I’m not going to go too much detail of the Dungeons as I fear I may spoil it, but if the Dungeons sounds like your type of thing I would recommend that you go.

Alas, it was time to board the train and come back to reality.  I had such an amazing time in Edinburgh and it has been lovely to relive it all through these posts.  *gets emotional*

Hannah and I are already saving up for our next adventure, but we are not too sure where to go.  Knowing us we will end up in Newcastle angling for a cameo on Geordie Shore…

I went to Frankenstein’s when I went at Christmas and loved it. We kind of stumbled upon the menu, saw they did macaroni cheese and walked in. We didn’t take note of the name of the pub, so it was a bit of a surprise when we walked in, it was a nice surprise. I’d love to go back.

It is such a unique place, I loved the interior of it :) I think the macaroni cheese is what lured Hannah in! x

  2. I love Edinburgh so much! I’ve not done the Dungeons there but I did the ones in York and thought they were a bit cheesy. I imagine Edinburgh Dungeons to be 10x scarier though as it’s seeped in such gruesome history.

Ages ago I went to Mary Kings Close which is basically streets under the city where people lived! There was this one room where a little girl had the plague and they bricked up the room and left her there! I had the heebie jeebies for days :(
Anyway, I digress. Looks like you had a great time, can’t wait to read where you go next!

I haven’t been to the ones in York but I think Edinburgh would have the best ones! York isn’t that scary – York is more Viking then anything else!

Hannah wanted to go to St Marys Close but we ended up going on the ghost tour instead, we will have to go there when we go again!

Thank you so much, I had a lot of fun writing about our travels! Hopefully we can go away again soon :)

I love York Dungeons so would definitely love to visit the Edinburgh ones!
I’ve loved reading about your trip – I’ve only ever headed that far to the zoo and haven’t spent any time in the city so really need to head that way soon!
