Hello! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I visited Edinburgh at the end of March. Whilst I shared a few snaps at the time of what I was doing and getting up to, I thought that I would bring you a full and detailed account of my week away (ok, it was more like 4 days but a week sounded better!). In order to keep things interesting, I’ve decided to split the posts into days to avoid a long and winding post. You can read Day 1 here . You can read Day 2 here . Let’s crack on with Day 3!
Edinburgh – Day 3
It was time for Hannah and I to soak up some culture – where better to start then Edinburgh Castle? We had been looking forward to going and decided it would be best to dedicate a full day to it so that we could take our time.
Once again, we were very lucky with the weather! Atop Edinburgh Castle you get an amazing view of the city.
As beautiful as Edinburgh Castle was, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought it would. Obviously it is heavily focused on Scottish history, and if that castle could talk it would don a red wig and utter, you know nothing Dan Jo (could this catch on?!) . Looking back, I probably should have made an effort to read up on Scottish history before I went. If I had, I may have appreciated the castle a bit more. Nonetheless, I am glad that I have been. It is a beautiful castle. There are so many informative displays about the history of the castle dotted around; I think I might have learned something after all. Of course, t here are certain areas in the castle that you cannot photograph, but y’know sometimes it’s best to put the camera away.
As we were near Wagamama, it would have been rude of us NOT to go in… Right? We were hoping we’d get away with a second visit in three days but alas, we were recognised and we were served by the same waitress from Monday. I decided to try something different to justify the second visit and I chose the Chicken Katsu Curry … without the sauce *shrieks from several audience members*. I know, I know – but as it was something new I didn’t want to irritate my stomach. I enjoyed it very much, and if I were to have it again I’d try it with the sauce.
We decided to have a stroll around Greyfriars Kirk , the graveyard we were taken to during our Day 2 ghost tour. It wasn’t so scary in the day time, and it was very quiet and peaceful. We spotted the grave of “Greyfriars Bobby” – a dog who protected his master’s grave many years after his death. I love stories like this, and what I love even more is that Bobby’s grave is in a far better condition then his master’s!
We also found the grave of “Thomas Riddel”, the inspiration for J K Rowling to create Tom Riddle in Harry Potter. Just in case there was any doubt as to whether that was THE grave, someone had drawn a Deathly Hallows sign underneath.
For tea time, we headed to the Hard Rock Cafe . I have never been to one before so this was a rather exciting trip for me! Somehow, we were still full up from Wagamama, so we both had a small side to prepare our stomach for this mammoth dessert.
We were originally going to have a Hot Fudge Brownie dessert each , but we were recommended by our lovely server that it was better shared between us. I am so RELIEVED he told us that, as there was no way we would have eaten one of these each. I have never been beaten by a dessert but good golly, this monster did it. It was very sweet and sickly. You are initially greeted with a TON of ice cream and whipped cream, and only by eating a good chunk of it will you get to the warm chocolate brownie underneath. Whilst this sounded nice in principle , the coldness of the ice cream rendered the brownie a warm, soggy mess by the time we got to it, and it made us both feel a little ill eating it.
I would like to give the Hard Rock Cafe some advice of my own, and advise them to put the brownie on top of the ice cream. You’re welcome.
One more update to go! Get ready for Day 4…

YOU HAVE TO TRY CHICKEN KATSU CURRY WITH THE SAUCE, it’s my favourite thing ever!! I love the view from the castle too <3
I’ll try the sauce one day! x
I went to Edinburgh last week, the views from the castle are so beautiful. It’s such a stunning city.
The Hard Rock Cafe <3 I love HRC's. Your server was definitely right, HRC are not tight with their dessert portions at all. I tried to eat one when I went to Dublin and I couldn't even get halfway through it, which is saying something because I ALWAYS finish dessert.
Would you believe I’ve never been to wagamamas? Is that terrible?
WHAT!!! This needs to be remedied asap :)
