Mitsuya Cider Lemon Candies

Posted in Lifestyle

Hello! I have to say, moving house (and counties!) made it hard to crack into my July OyatsuBox that I received a few days before the big move. I did however manage to snaffle a few of the items into my suitcase to road test here and there.  Today I am sharing the love for the Mitsuya Cider Lemon Candies.

$3.99 – Oyatsu Cafe

My first thought with these were “cider flavoured sweets?” but luckily for me, the term cider is used to describe a different kind of drink in East Asia.   In Japan, cider refers to a soft drink that is similar to lemonade.  You could say these sweets are like lemonade flavoured sweets!

Each sweet comes individually wrapped; I like the idea of these being kept fresh but I also feel it’s a bit of a waste especially when my room ends up being covered in the little wrappers.  I keep finding them in the most unusual of places…

I’m not usually the biggest fan of boiled sweets if I’m honest, but these are lovely.  With them being lemon flavoured I braced myself for the inevitable raisin face induced by the flavour but there is none of that here.  The taste is just right; a subtle lemon flavour that actually does remind me of lemonade!  I have to say, the fizzy outer layer is so addictive.  The fizz reminds me of lemon sherbet, but more fizzier and that effect being more long lasting.  I always end eating two of these at a time!

The Mitsuya Cider Lemon Candies have become a real favourite for me and I would buy these again in the future.  I received a different variety in my September OyatsuBox, and no doubt I will be loving those also.

These are so good for traveling with – they help keep my nausea at bay.
I don’t think that I’ve seen any boiled sweets in Japan that aren’t individually wrapped – you’ve got me thinking now!

I read an article once about Japan’s obsession with packaging, so probably not! :D I get really bad at nausea, I might try these next time I travel :)
