Shigekix Energy Drink - Famous in Japan

Shigekix – Energy Drink

£1.46 – OyatsuCafe

The Shigekix – Energy Drink are a fairly new arrival into my life, having only landed on my doorstep a few weeks ago in an OyatsuBox .  They are heralded as being some of the most sour candies to ever come out of Japan .  With that claim in mind, I had to try them as soon as possible .  Once I have an item in mind to try I must try it as soon as possible, despite how large my review backlog is…

Shigekix Energy Drink -- Famous in Japan

The Shigekix – Energy Drink come in a small packet; they are smaller in height than my iPhone 6 to give you an indication.  They come housed in a foil and resealable packet , which is handy if you can’t bring yourself to eat them all in one go.  I find that having sweets in resealable packets really does help me stop overeating unnecessarily.  Having a large candy stash in my wardrobe on the other hand… does not.

The sweets themselves are small, hard and chewy.  When I first opened the packet, I was surprised at their appearance.   Surely this tiny sweet couldn’t be as sour as they claimed?

I was wrong.

JEEZ.  MY JAW! EEEEEE!

THESE SWEETS ARE SOUR.

Very sour.

Fear not; the sour sensation disappears before your face permanently transforms into a prune.  The sour sensation doesn’t last that long in my view; it’s more of an quick, intense hit rather than an ongoing sour taste  After the initial sour shock has gone, you are left with an enjoyable, energy drink tasting sweet .  The small size and chewy nature means they are quite addictive in their own special way .  No matter how sour they get and how much you want to cry, you just want another.

I would definitely buy these candies again.  They’re so unusual, and definitely from Japan .  Even though they are the most sour sweets I have ever tried , they are also strangely addictive.   In true me-like fashion, I want to try the ramune variety.    I also want to try and prank some unsuspecting people into trying them…   Let’s hope my potential victims don’t read my blog!

Would you try these super sour candies?
