Meiji Strawberry Chocolate Apollos

Hello!  I’m slowly, but surely , making a dent in my Japanese candy stash.  Yay for getting it under control, nay for split jeggings.   I wish I was joking.  Today’s post is about some little sweet treats; the Meiji Strawberry Chocolate Apollos .

Meiji Strawberry Apollo - Famous in Japan

Meiji Strawberry Chocolate Apollos

These rocket shaped chocolates zoomed into my life via a parcel swap with Nicole .   They are made up of a milk chocolate base, topped with a strawberry flavoured white chocolate tip.    The box features a small Hello Kitty to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Hello Kitty, and also the 45th anniversary of Meiji Apollos.

When I opened these up for the first time, I was surprised that they were not in a separate foil packet of their own.  It’s rather strange that the Japanese have trusted the apollos to roam free around their box but I’m not complaining – it means they’re easier for me to get to, and eat!

As I have tried a few chocolate products from Meiji now, including their Chocolate Cream Meltykiss and their Choco Baby Chocolate , I knew I had nothing to be worried about.  I was right; Meiji have done it again.

These little chocolates are unbelieveably good.  They are so moreish and addictive, I cannot stop eating them.    I nearly ate the entire box in a sitting.   The milk chocolate is the typical Meiji chocolate; creamy, sweet but not too rich.  The strawberry flavoured white chocolate is lovely too.  It’s not as sweet as it was in the  Meiji Meltykiss Fruity Strawberry Chocolates , but it’s still enjoyable.   With these apollos, it’s the milk chocolate’s time to shine, and there is more of a balance between the two flavours.

Yet another product from Meiji that has made it into my affections.  I will definitely be buying these again in the future.  I will also be buying the DIY candy kit where you can make the apollos.  I think it would be so much fun!  I won’t be able to get my hands on it now that it is summer in Japan, but I’m going to make a deal with myself that if I can get the stash down to a reasonable size by winter I will treat myself to it, as well as other items!

  1. Hopefully your jeggings splitting didn’t happen in public! I love the flavor combo of chocolate and strawberry, so these sound delish! Whenever I have the opportunity, I can’t wait to try all of the amazing treats you review!
