Hello!   When my eagle eyes spotted the Meiji Meltykiss Fruity Strawberry Chocolate  in Candy Hero Leeds a few weeks ago, I was handing over £5 quicker than you can say Meltykiss .  Considering I would sell my soul for a box of the Meiji Meltykiss Creamy Milk Chocolate variety, I had to buy, try and see how they compared.

For those of you are new to my blog, Meiji Meltykiss chocolates are a big deal.  Not only to me, but also to Japan.  Meiji Meltykiss chocolates are chocolate truffles dusted with cocoa powder, with a sweet filling.  They are designed to melt in the mouth, hence the “melty” part of the name.  There are flavours such as chocolate cream, strawberry, matcha, rum and raisin to name a few.

Meltykiss chocolates are given as a special gift usually during winter, as you can see from the winter themed packaging.  Each chocolate is individually wrapped so it is like you are unwrapping a small present each time.   As cute as this idea is, it doesn’t look good on me when my bin is full of small wrappers.  They keep getting me into trouble!

As I adore the chocolate cream variety, I wasn’t sure what to expect with the fruity strawberry offering.   Alas, those fears melted away (geddit?) quickly after my first bite.

The fruity strawberry centre is strawberry chocolate , and not of jelly-like filling like I had originally feared.  The strawberry taste manages to hit the sweet spot, without being overly sickly or overpowering.   The chocolate compliments the strawberry well .  There is no battle for the main flavour, as the focus is definitely on the strawberry with just a hint of the milk chocolate taste.  If anything, it’s the small amount of milk chocolate that stops the strawberry taste from becoming too much.   When I have had a craving for something sweet, one or two of these chocolates has done the trick.

Would I buy them again?   I’m not sure.  They are lovely, but my heart belongs to the chocolate cream.  Then again , if I see a lone box of these on a shelf it would be rude not to take them home…

Have you tried Meltykiss yet?

My mouth is watering at the thought of these, they sound so delicious. In my head, they taste a bit like those strawberry chocolates you get in tubs of Roses; do they taste like that?

The filling isn’t a creme like the strawberry ones in Roses, this is more of a white chocolate mixed with strawberry flavour :) I knew I hadn’t described it well, gaaah! x
