Despite having enough Japanese candy to set up my own store, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to once again try the Japan Candy Box service, and give a box away to one lucky person! Read on to see what I received in the March box, and how you can win a Japan Candy Box.
Japan Candy Box is a subscription service from the super-kawaii folks over at Blippo.com. Having seen the success of the hugely popular Kawaii Box ( a service I myself was subscribed to for months ), they are now targeting the candy subscription service market. As Blippo.com is a reputable online shop, you can guarantee that all the items will be of high quality.
Let’s dive in, shall we?
One item that immediately caught my attention were the Fujiya Milky Peko x Sanrio Chocolates . From what I can make out, these are chocolates in the shape of Sanrio characters such as Hello Kitty, My Melody, Little Twin Stars and more. They boast two layers of chocolate , one milk and one strawberry . Let’s hope they are just as tasty as they are cute!
Yay, a DIY candy kit! The Kracie Sea Animals DIY Candy Kit looks similar to the Kracie Popin’ Cookin’ Oekaki Animal Candy Land DIY Candy Kit , in that you mould candy into animals and use candy flavoured “paints” to bring them to life. I can’t wait to give this a go, but let’s hope that there are no sharks in this kit… *shudders*
Do my eyes deceive me, or do I spot some savoury snacks in this box? The Calbee Sapporo Potato Vegetable Snacks are self-explanatory, no? I appreciate that this is only a small bag as there is a risk that I, and others , will not like them.
The second savoury item I received was the Bourbon Petit Grilled Pizza Rice Crackers . Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Pizza flavoured crackers?! They look more like cookies than crackers to me! *shudders* I will give them a try, although it will have to be with someone who can eat them if I don’t like them… Oh, boyfriend….
A-ha! Did I not say a few weeks ago that I was sure that I already had some Kabaya Karipori Candy Sticks ? At least now I know that I DEFINITELY have two boxes! You are all witnesses. Karipori are candy sticks with one end being cola flavoured, and the other end being grape flavoured. Now I have two boxes, I have no excuse to not review them, so keep an eye out for my thoughts in the near future.
I couldn’t find the Meiji Mushroom Mountain Chocolate Cookies on Blippo, but I have reviewed the Meiji Kinoko No Yama Chocolate in the past, and these look rather similar. If the Kinoko no Yama Chocolate is anything to go by, these will probably be very tasty and I’ll end up wanting an entire box of them!
Whilst I’m not sure which flavour the Kasugai 100% Fruit Juice Gummies are ( my brain is torn between peach and apple – help! ), these sound rather lovely. Gummies made with 100% fruit juice; do they count as one of my 5 a day?
For some reason , I am dying to eat the Coris Cola and Soda Soft Candy . By the time you have read this post, I will have demolished it whilst watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Eee, how small are the Meiji Mini Grape Gummies ? They are just asking to be lost in the stash. I better keep them safe in my handbag. . and maybe eat them at work… Who knows , the sugar boost might help me to work harder?
Yay for Hi-Chew! I am pleased to see a small tube of Hi-Chew Chewy Candy – Cola , as I think this is either a variety I haven’t tried , or one that I have forgot I have tried. I love cola flavoured things, so these will be an enjoyable treat, I just know it.
What did I think? Well…. Once again, I am impressed with Japan Candy Box . Whilst I am wary of the pizza crackers, I can’t wait to try the Kracie DIY Candy Kit as well as the smaller treats, such as the Coris Cola and Soda soft candy and Fujiya Peko x Sanrio chocolates. I know I am repeating myself here, but if I was not drowning in OyatsuBoxes, I would be sorely tempted to give this subscription service a try. There is a good mixture of full size items and small items , with a variety of different tastes and textures . Oh, I can’t wait to get stuck in! *rubs greedy hands with glee*
Japan Candy Box would be an ideal gift for the sweet toothed candy lovers in your life, whether it is a friend or indeed yourself (I won’t tell!). The boxes come well presented, both inside and outside ( love the new packaging, Blippo! ). Japan Candy Box doesn’t come with any telltale invoice or receipt ( this is usually sent by email ), but it does come with a small infomation sheet about the candy. The information sheet lists the items you have received, but do note that it does not include the specific flavours of the item received. For example, on my sheet it simply says “ Kasugai 100% Fruit Juice Gummies ” but it doesn’t say what flavour it is. This is down to different flavours of the items being included in the boxes, so it isn’t as if everyone who receives the box gets exactly the same box. As an example, I have received peach (or maybe apple?), and someone else will receive apple (or maybe peach?)
Please note that none of the items in this box can be guaranteed to be suitable for vegetarians and/or vegans, nor are they guaranteed to be Halal, Kosher or gluten free.
Japan Candy Box costs $18.90 – $19.90 per month (about £12), and you will receive 8-10 items of Japanese candy. The price is dependent on the subscription plan you choose, and the price plan is cheaper if you take out a longer pla n. The price is similar to other subscription services of this kind, and if you enjoy a particular treat, you’ll be able to find it on Blippo.com! The price includes tracked shipping , which means you can follow your box from Singapore to… wherever you are in the world! For us UK folk, it takes about two weeks to arrive , sometimes less if you’re lucky .
