Hello! Today’s blog post is about a product I never thought I would try… I’m talking about the Frito Lay Takoyaki Tei .
Frito Lay Takoyaki Tei
When the bag of Frito Lay Takoyaki Tei corn puffs arrived in an OyatsuBox , I will admit to being rather hesitant to try them.
Takoyaki , in case you didn’t know, is a Japanese snack; flavoured batter containing bits of octopus . I have tried octopus in the past and I wasn’t a fan, so I didn’t fancy trying the taste in crisp form!
However , when I began to see some positive reviews about these corn puffs popping up, I became rather curious to try them . I kept thinking about them, and so I read even more reviews. After a few weeks of staring down the packet, I couldn’t take it any longer and I decided to finally bite the bullet. I sat down. I gingerly opened the packet and…
The scent was something delicious.
Seriously, the scent made my mouth water . Any trepidations or fears I had about trying them disappeared in an instant .
The Takoyaki Tei corn puffs are shaped into small balls, just like how you would receive normal takoyaki. They are surprisingly light yet give a good crunch .
To my UK readers they taste like Roast Beef Monster Munch. To my non-UK readers, they are spicy and tangy, with no traces of a fishy or batter-like taste. If you like spicy crisps then you will definitely like these.
The spicy taste is perfectly suited to the corn puff style, and I think that if it was in a standard potato chip form they wouldn’t be as enjoyable. To be honest, I wouldn’t have known that these corn puffs were “takoyaki flavoured” at all, and I would have put them down to being something similar to the Calbee Hot Chili potato chips . If this is what actual takoyaki tastes like then I will be definitely giving it a try in the future.
I’ve gone from being scared to trying these corn puffs, to already plotting to buy multiple packets to hoard in the stash . They’re so addictive ; I cannot stop eating them. I’m honestly surprised at how much I love them, and a little embarrassed about how scared I was to try them. Thanks to these corn puffs, I’m now feeling slightly more brave about trying unusual flavours. Oh, what should I try next?

I’d definitely be put off by the octopus flavour too but they sound deeeelicious! :)
