Ooh, is this the first Japanese drink I’ve reviewed on my blog? I think it is! Read on to find out my thoughts on the Calpis Water .
After trying the Calpis Soda Gummies and the Calpis Marshmallows , Sami Spoon kindly told me that I could get a drink version in the huge Chinese supermarket in Leeds. Thanks, Sami! When I took a trip to Leeds I was delighted to spot it chilling in the fridges and I bought it. It is for the blog after all…
Due to my blogging break, this drink has been sitting in my fridge for a few months now *guilty face* . Anyway, let’s get it cracked open and get it supped.
To be honest, I had no idea what to expect with the Calpis Water. I had visions of a sweet and sickly milky tasting drink. Similar in taste to the gummies , I would quickly throw this drink away and curse it all over my blog. But in fact, I was surprised…
The Calpis Water tastes like … well , a very sweet water. The milk aspect of the drink that I was fearing isn’t that noticeable. If I hadn’t heard of Calpis before and I was trying this drink I would probably think this was sugar and water.
The scent and taste remind me of the Calpis Marshmallows more than the Calpis Soda Gummies , which is a relief I have to say. Overall, the Calpis Water is a refreshing, thirst quenching drink. I feel so silly; I had nothing to be afraid of! I’ve gone from dreading trying it, to actually enjoying it. I know I will be trying it again, and I’ll be racing back to the Chinese supermarket to go find a few more cans. Better make some more room in the fridge….
What Japanese drink should I try next? I think it’s time for me to try ramune!
