A Weekend in Osmotherly with Sykes Cottages

Hello! At the end of November last year, I packed my bag and went on holiday with bloggers.   All those years my parents warned me of strangers on the internet when in fact, strangers on the Internet ended up being some of my closest friends!  After what felt like months of counting down the days and exchanging A LOT of emails between 8 of us (my iPhone nearly exploded), the time finally arrived .

A Weekend in Osmotherly

with Sykes Cottages

We stayed in Osmotherly , a small village in North Yorkshire near North Allerton and Thirsk.  It was a very quiet and small village, and basic mobile signal was not that great as a result.  Shoutout to the one pub that offered free Wi-Fi… although I can’t remember the name of it to give it an actual shoutout… #awks.

The Cote Ghyll cottage was absolutely beautiful.  Can you even call it a cottage?  To my uncultured self it was practically a mansion!  Situated next to the owner’s caravan park, it had… *deep breath* four bedrooms, a games room, a living room with an open fire, a spacious kitchen with dining area, a bathroom, two toilets as well as picturesque views all around us.  I would suggest that you take a peek at the pictures of the cottage on the website as it was absolutely stunning.

For me personally, I liked how the house “branched out” into two separate spaces upstairs, with two bedrooms on either side of the house.  Say if you were at this cottage with another family, you could spend time together downstairs but you could have your own “half” of the house upstairs where each family could stay together.  I hope that makes sense!

I admit I was extremely unorganized and silly and barely took any photos of the cottage.  I kept forgetting to take pictures and when I finally remembered to, my camera had not been charged.  Oops… I am using some of my fellow blogger’s photos with permission (I hope!).

Friday:

We arrived late in the afternoon – I had to get on two trains to get to North Allerton, where I was to be picked up by Corinne .  We kind of, almost, nearly died but I think that experience brought us closer.  After claiming our bedrooms (my roommate was the wonderful Simone ) and unpacking the alcohol, we were treated to a gorgeous meal prepared for by Sammie .  Seriously, girl did good.  We then all got changed into comfy pyjamas, wiped off the war paint and sung along to Frozen.   Some of us stayed up quite late, drinking and talking about heavy issues such as Scottish Independence and MS.

Saturday:

We all toddled into the village of Osmotherly to check out what it had to offer.   From the cottage, it was about a 10 minute walk down a straight road, so it’s easy to get to without complications.  Just watch out for any mud!  We all had something to eat and a few drinks before heading back to the cottage for more drinking, chatting and fighting over the limited Wi-Fi.

Sunday:

This time, we had a drive into North Allerton!  We saw donkeys, browsed Waterstones, had sneaky trips into Boots and Superdrug and to top it all off, I ate 4 cream eclairs in Corinne’s car.  I know what you are thinking – you are so impressed.   We also had dinner that night in another one of the local pubs, just to finish off the holiday.  I also have to say that Kel made me the best hot chocolate of my life on that Sunday, it will never be forgotten.

I had such a wonderful time with these ladies  and I’m so happy that I can honestly call them my friends.

Truth be told, I had been feeling pretty down before the holiday, but a weekend with these ladies just made all the anxiety and worries disappear.  They all had me laughing until my stomach ached, introduced me to the wonder of gin and bitter lemon, and listened to my incessant drunken ramblings.   Thank you all so much  <3

I wonder where our next holiday will be… down South perhaps? *spends the next 5 hours browsing through the Sykes Cottages website*
