Introducing… Don’t Bend the Spine

Posted in Blog

Hello… it’s me.

Long time, no speak.

Its crazy to think I have been blogging since 2010ish; the Tumblr days feel like a distant memory.

When I first started blogging, my main passion was beauty products.   Skincare, haircare, makeup, I wanted to try it all.   For a while, my blog was reasonably popular, and I had some amazing opportunities which I will always be incredibly grateful for.

Over the last two or so years, my interests and priorities have changed.   I fell in love with someone amazing and subsequently started building a whole new life with that person.  Buying a house, renovating the house and getting over a quarter-life crisis meant that I no longer had the time, patience or dedication that a beauty blog needed, and so I abandoned Famous in Japan.

Even though I loved reading books and sharing my thoughts, I knew my ‘core’ audience originally followed me for my beauty reviews, and not for my book posts.   I lost a lot of readers, some of whom who had been with me for years.  For a long time, I felt angry at myself, and I wanted to delete all trace of this blog and pretend it had never happened.

But… I still wanted to write.   As I was still reading books, and attempting to share my thoughts about them with whoever would listen,  I decided to create a book blog.     It’s been a few months, and I am enjoying writing again, even if it takes me a month to string a sentence together, and another month to write a coherent blog post.  It would make my day if you popped over and let me know what you think so far.

To be honest with you, I’m not entirely sure whether I will resume blogging on here.  I think at this point, it would be too late to try and recapture the magic that I had the first time around.   However, I still feel proud of everything I achieved and the people I met through this blog, and I will keep it as a reminder of what I can do.
