Review: Maybelline Mega Plush Volum’ Express Mascara

Posted in Beauty

It honestly feels like an AGE since I have done a make up review.  Scrolling back through my archives, it seems I’ve churned out non-stop skincare and body items… boo me!  To make it up to y’all, I promise that for a few weeks you’re going to get more make-up reviews than you can shake a stick at.

They say:

Now, mega volume goes mega plush.  Our first gel-mousse mascara.  Lashes never brittle or flaky.

I say:

It seems there is an unwritten rule in my life that whenever Maybelline release a new mascara, I have to have it.  It doesn’t matter if I have about 20 opened mascaras, if I see a new advert from good ol’ Maybellerz, promising something ridiculous like 10000000% volume, that advert will haunt me until I give in.  Magazines, television, adverts… it’s like The Grudge, but with mascaras.

(As much as I love J-cinema, I am too much of a wuss to actually watch The Grudge, so it you’re sat there thinking “that’s not what happens in The Grudge…” then that is why!)

The Maybelline Mega Plush Volum’ Express mascara doesn’t seem to have done the rounds on the blogosphere but perhaps… there is a reason why…

The Maybelline Mega Plush Volum’ Mascara is packaged up in the now bog standard for Maybelline mascaras – that odd shape that means if you are blinded by the early morning, you can easily feel for it in the abyss that is a make up bag.    The colour is perhaps not too my taste – I associate “plush” with cuddly teddy bears.

When I opened this up for the first time, I admit an eyebrow was raised at the brush.  It’s a bit of a hot mess isn’t it; let’s be honest!   I’m not entirely sure whether it’s the “gel-mousse” formula that is the culprit for that one but it looks like Maybelline gathered all the eyelashes that were victims of their waterproof formulas and stuck them together on a brush. *deep breath*

Turning to the gel-mousse formula now – upon application the formula feels light on the lashes and nor does it double my lashes into deadly weapons.  It’s isn’t quite “natural” feeling as you can feel (and see!) that your lashes are coated.  As a contact lense wearer I haven’t experienced any discomfort.

I find that the non waterproof formulas hold up really well in day to day life, and comes off easily with some hot water and a flannel.

To summarise, this is a  “your lashes but better… but only if you have nice lashes to begin with” mascara.  Without blowing me own horn ‘ere (oo-er), my lashes are alright.  I think if perhaps you aren’t blessed in that department this is one to pass up on, as it’s not going to add anything spectacular.  For me, this isn’t a mascara that I would repurchase as even though it lives up to it’s claims, it’s just not what I want in a mascara… “It’s not you, it’s me” springs to mind.

If maybe this IS something that you’re looking for, this retails for £7.99 and can be purchased at Boots and Superdrug.

Have you tried the Maybelline Mega Plush mascara?

It’s not the best… but it’s not rubbish either. Just not what I want in a mascara to be honest! x
