Maybelline Baby Skin Primer

Posted in Beauty

Hello!  I decided I had better offer you a make up review before you leave me in droves – again! *sobs* I thought I would finally blog about the Maybelline Baby Skin Primer as some of you may be thinking of purchasing it this summer.  Perhaps you should read my review before you do… *mysterious music*

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer

£7.99 – Boots

They say:

Maybelline Baby Skin provides a matte finish and leaves the skin fresh, soft and protected. The gel texture in Baby Skin instantly helps to vanish pores and makes the skin feel light.  It avoids a shine on the skin and makes the skin feel soft.  Bye bye pores!

Apply alone or under make-up.

Take a small amount of Baby Skin Pore Eraser on your finger tips and apply evenly to the required face area. If applying makeup, wait until Baby Skin Pore Eraser is set.

Only for adults!  Suitable for all skin types and tones.

I say:

Whilst I am a huge supporter of the Maybelline Baby Lips, the Maybelline Baby Skin Primer left me feeling a little underwhelmed.  A “gel texture primer that claims to “help vanish pores” and make the skin feel” light”… this ain’t.  *takes earrings out*

For starters, it is a really weird gel texture.  Not like a light, easily absorbed gel.  This is a silicone heavy gel that feels almost grainy and requires you to push and pull it on to the skin, in a way, to apply.  It feels like it’s stretching itself when you try and blend it out and the feeling of that makes me cringe – eee!  It also feels quite heavy on the skin and to be honest, it makes my skin feel quite  “slide-y”.  I don’t feel this particularly helps prolong make up wear, in fact I think this hinders it as there are times where I think my make up is sliding off when in fact my make up should be sticking to the primer, no?

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer Before and After - Famous in Japan, UK Blog

Here are some pictures of it in action – the left side is before and the right side is after.  It does help minimise the shine I get on my forehead and cheeks and it does blur my skin out slightly.  I don’t see a difference in my visible pores though – do you? For a product marketed as a primer, I expected better.

Would I recommend this product? No, not really.  I could overlook the awful texture and the heavy feeling if it actually made a difference to how long my make up stays on but.. sadly it does not.

Have you tried the Maybelline Baby Skin Primer?

I bought this – on offer, thank god – thinking it would be a cheap alternative to Porefessional. Sadly, it seems that it is just *cheap* xx

I’ve been thinking about a new primer. I use the Nivea one, but it’s taking the p*ss lately. I don’t think I’ll waste my money on this one now! So, thanks for saving me some ££ :)

I see a difference in your pores, but porefessional works wonders for me!

I kinda like it, I like how it leaves my skin feeling. I’ve used porefessional in the past and just dried my skin out this seems to work for me at the moment I agree that it makes you feel as if your make up is sliding off though haha.

Hahaha, porefessional makes my skin feel quite heavy sometimes! It’s also really expensive!

I’ve read a lot of reviews about the Pore Eraser and it really seems like a hit or a miss for everyone. Sucks that it was a miss for you though! Primers are meant to enhance longevity of the base, not help in sliding them off. Tsk. I think I’m gonna have to pass on this.
