Products I Wish I Hadn’t Bought: Lip Edition

Buyers remorse is a common feeling in a blogger’s world.   Too often are we suckered into purchases, some of which lead to crushing disappointment .   I decided to start a new series on my blog documenting my beauty purchase regrets, and today I will be starting with the lip products I wish I hadn’t bought .

1D x MUA Lipsticks

WHAT WAS I THINKING!  I am definitely blaming the bloggers here.  You made them sound good, and they’re anything but!   I was definitely going through a One Direction phase…  These lipsticks are tacky, unwearable colours in equally tacky, embarrassing packaging .   The formulation feels SO oily on the lips, and they honestly do not stay on your lips or last that well.   It genuinely feels as if it is moving around – urgh!    It will end up on your cheek in 10 minutes.    Seriously.  I’m not even sure which shades I have.  I want to throw them away but my conscience won’t let me as it feels it is a waste.  Then again, I can’t let them sit in my drawer forever…   Can someone take them off my hands please?

MakeUp Revolution Lipstick in Vamp

Once again, I am blaming bloggers for this one.   Stop making things sound good!   This lipstick is verging on watery.  It doesn’t feel as watery as the aforementioned 1D lipsticks do but it is still too slippery for my liking .  No matter how I apply it, it doesn’t go fully opaque .  I can envisage this looking nice layered over an existing lip product, but on it’s own it just doesn’t work .  I know I shouldn’t have expected much when it was only a £1, but as I read so many positive reviews before I bought it I feel a little cheated .  Halloween is soon so who knows, I might be able to work some magic with it!

Lip Balm (When I Didn’t Need It!)

I have an addiction.   A lip balm addiction.  I cannot stop buying them.   I just want to say that there is nothing wrong with the ones pictured, I’m just proving a point!  I didn’t need any more lip balms, but I still bought them.  There are far too many in my beauty drawers, lying neglected after a few uses.   I don’t know what it was that made me go crazy over the Baby Lips in particular , but I think I have about 10 of them now – 10!  I am ashamed.

Lip Gloss:

What is it about lip gloss that draws me to it?  I never wear it.  Ever.  Too often are they gloopy, sticky and are too sheer for the look I like to go for.  Luckily, I have seen sense and I have stopped buying it.  However, I still need to get rid of the ones I don’t use – particularly the pink ones!  Honestly, if lipgloss was made illegal tomorrow I would not even batter an eyelid.  I don’t even know of any one who DOES wear it…

Any type of Petroleum Jelly

WHY. WHY DID I WASTE MY MONEY ON A TIN OF GOO?   What a waste of my money.  Vaseline is only good for preventing hair dye staining, reducing chafing during exercising, or for taming unruly eyebrows.  That’s about it.   In terms of lip care it serves no real purpose.  I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with the multiple tins I own as I don’t dye my hair enough to justify it. Perhaps I could take up some exercise as a way of using it up… do Netflix marathons count?

Do you have any products you wish you hadn’t bought?

Dannie x

  1. I love this post and can relate to it SO much. I have all the Baby Lips Collection, not to mention every Lip Smackers ever available. Why!? I also have way too many pots of the Lush lip scrub – they last forever too! Ugh.
