Hello!  Who turned down the heating?  It’s absolutely freezing, and doesn’t my skin know about it.   Brr.  Luckily for us, Fragrance Direct have got our backs ( or should I say… our faces?  Backs of our faces? Discuss… ).

L-R Clockwise: Elemis Ginseng Toner | Clinique Turnaround Instant Facial | Decleo r Aroma Confort Body Milk | Dead Sea Spa Magick Salt Brushing Body Scrub | Opal Crafts Exfoliating Gloves

I’ll start off with the face.  Cor, do our faces take a battering or what?  Cold air, heating, make up… we don’t half put our faces through it’s paces (#sickrhymes) in winter.   I have two major skincare heavyweights here: Elemis and Clinique.  Whilst they differ in ideals – Elemis favours natural and active ingredients as opposed to Clinique’s chemical goodness – they are both brands that you can trust for results you can visibly see.

The Elemis Rehydrating Ginseng Toner revitalises your skin with ingredients such as Ginseng, Quillaja Wood and Sweet Betty Flower as well as moisturising and hydrating the skin with  plant glycerine and de-ionised water.   I find this toner really gentle on my skin; it smooths and brightens without drying out my skin like toners I have tried in the past.  I can’t seem to find it on the Fragrance Direct website which is a shame!

The Clinique Turnaround Instant Facial is a product I have tried before and dare I say, loved.   The Turnaround range by Clinique is all about transforming skin by buffing away dull, dead skin and encouraging cell turnover for skin.  The mask is more of an exfoliator in my view; the fine beads give the most thorough exfoliation I’ve ever had.  This is the perfect product to use before applying products such as oils and serums as it will help them penetrate into the layers of the skin deeper and work more effectively.  (Clinique claim it’s similar to microdermabrasion, but as that’s a salon treatment I highly doubt it!).

Just like the skin on our faces, the skin on our body can also become dull, patchy and dry due to circulation slowing down, lack of exercise, poor diet and hot hot hot baths.  Here are some products to remedy those ailments!

The Decleor Aroma Confort Body Milk is a product that took me by surprise.  I am terrible at applying body lotions and butters so I assumed this would be another product that was banished to the drawer.  Well… I fell in love with this body milk from the first use.  This offering from Decleor is enriched with essential oils and plant extracts to rehydrate and improve the skin. It feels heavenly on my skin; so moisturising but so light – this may be the product to convert me in accepting body moisturiser as my personal saviour.

A product that I’m not too sure on at the moment is the Dead Sea Spa Magick Salt Brushing Body Buff .  I love body scrubs and I use them all year round, regardless of the seasons, but this scrub disappoints me.  It’s very moist *cringes violently* and it takes a lot of buffing it in to feel it working.  I’ll give it another chance for now but there are other scrubs on the market that are better than this one AND are cheaper.

Finally, a basic yet convenient beauty item that everyone can use regardless of the seasons are the Opal Crafts Exfoliating Gloves .  You can use these in the summer to prepare your skin for lashings of fake tan and you can also use them in winter for a super speedy way of body buffing without messy scrubs.  There is only one pictured above as I dropped one of the gloves into the bath and I didn’t want to get my new photography set up ruined, so I can assure you that you do receive two!  The exfoliating gloves are the easiest and fastest way to soft skin – don’t forget to moisturise afterwards!

What are your beauty essentials for winter?
