Hello! Considering my “ Skincare Advice I Would Slap Into My Younger Self ” was so popular and well received, I thought I would share with you the make up advice I would give to my younger self if I could.
Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse is Not Your Friend
Seriously, how did Maybelline do it? Was it subliminal messaging? Did they just mysteriously plant tubs of Dream Matte Mousse into make up bags of young girls, like the Dream Matte Mousse fairy? I don’t know how they did it, but I do know that tub was a plague amongst my peers.
I don’t know why that foundation was so popular. Firstly, the foundation wasn’t even the right shade for most girls. The palest shade in typical Maybelline fashion was a fetching shade of orange, yet I still insisted on smearing it on my whiter than white complexion. Yeah, you definitely woke up like that, younger self. The consistency of the “foundation” was cakey yet oily and oxidised within a few hours. I don’t know of anyone that actually pulled off that foundation well.
I wish I could go back and tell myself, and all the other teenage girls, that Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse should be avoided at all costs. The teenage girls of today don’t know how good they have it… *shakes fist*
It’s laughable really that 10 years have passed since I started wearing make up, and Maybelline still can’t get their foundation shades right. For one of the biggest cosmetics companies in the world that’s pretty poor. *sips on delicious truth tea*
Turn On The Lights
I am not sure why I had such an aversion to the light in my teenage years, and why I insisted on applying my make up in terrible, dark lighting. I think it was because I had seen how bad my make up looked in natural lighting once, and I preferred how it looked in the dark. That’s some good #DannieLogic there *face palm*.
I would tell myself to open up the curtains, sit in front of the window and eventually learn to deal with the orange, streaky mess in the mirror. I know it isn’t a pretty sight younger self, but it is the only way that will help you to learn how to apply make up better.
Step Away From The Messy Liner
I know you have dreams of being a super cool rock chick with winged eyeliner, younger self, but you won’t achieve that by using the cheapest, nastiest £1 liquid eyeliners you can find in the chemist’s bargain bin. They are messy, gloopy and you can’t apply it that well either. More often than not the liquid gets into your eyes and renders them literally black.
Throw them in the bin, younger self. They will never work for you.
There’s More to Life than Avon
Even though I am sure my Avon representatives from my teenage years would disagree (I think I was the sole income for one of them!) , I really should not have been dependant on Avon for my make up needs. Looking back, I have no idea why I spent £10 on a primer that was designed to smooth out wrinkles and add radiance. I was 15 – I didn’t have wrinkles!
I do have to admit that Avon sell some pretty good mascaras and eyeliners, but I could have bought them from the high street instead of Avon. I am making up for it now though… *hoards all the make up*
Wear Red Lipstick Sooner
Seriously younger self, you are not a nude lipstick kind of girl. Start wearing red lipstick, and you will instantly become awesome. Everything in your life gets better by 10000% when you start wearing red lipstick. Promise.
What make up advice would you give to your younger self?

I loved reading this post!
I would tell myself to chuck out purple shadows!! Trample on them then chuck em! They made me look like a corpse. I know I love the corpse bride but seriously……….nooooo!!!
Same here with pink eyeshadows!! x
I’m definitely with you on the Dream Matte Mousse. I used to wear it too, and like you I’m pale so even the palest shade wasn’t right. My Mum, and sister used to wear it too, though their skin is darker so it actually looked ok on them. Not on me at all, but goodness knows how many tubs of the stuff I got through.
I know, it was an actual plague on teenage girls everywhere! x
I would tell myself to ditch the Barry M Dazzle Dust, hunt down a good foundation and stop wearing clear mascara – I mean, what’s even the point?! xx

Haha, I had to wear clear mascara as I wasn’t allowed normal mascara… x
