I will start off by saying that this post was inspired by Andy of Pampered Prince’s post of a similar nature .  As I reviewed the F&R balm on Saturday, I thought it would be interesting to do my own spin of it – especially as this month is all about natural and cruelty free alternatives.

You can all put down your pitchforks now, and get comfortable.

I do want to say a big fat SORRY for being AWOL yesterday – the internet at my home is shocking and only one of us can go on at a time.. so if my dad says he is on it.. he’s on it!

As I am obviously going to be blatantly biased here, I will try to be as neutral as possible and let YOU decide who is the winner.

  • Price

Figs and Rouge balms are priced at £4.99

Vaseline Pink Bubbly is priced at £3.49

  • Ingredients

Figs and Rouge use plant oils and are 100% organic. They use ingredients such as limonene and linalool which occur naturally in essential oils.

Vaseline is a mixture of petroleum jelly, glycerin and other ingredients, but also contain ingredients such as limonene and linalool which is also found in Figs and Rouge balms.

  • Availability

Figs and Rouge are available at Boots, Lucy Rose, FeelUnique, Urban Outfitters, Zalando, Whole Foods, Fresh & Wild.   Click here to be taken to their stockists page.

Vaseline is available pretty much everywhere! Boots, Superdrug, major supermarkets…

  • Uses

Figs and Rouge balms can be used as a cleanser, a moisturiser, on your feet, on your cuticles, nails & hands, on unruly eyebrows, as a skin primer and lip conditioner!

Vaseline is as equally versatile – as an eyelash treatment, a moisturiser, on your feet, body, cuticles, hands & nails, on your lips, unruly eyebrows, make up remover and hides split ends.  There are also lots of non-beauty uses for Vaseline – one blog even advised I could use it as a lubricant during self-love time… *ahem*

  • Appearance

Figs and Rouge balms come in a small, decorated tin.  They have a screw lid opening and closing.  The balm itself is solid, yet textured, and when massaged begins to “melt” to transform into an oil.  This particular brand of balm is scented “wild orange with cherry”.

Vaseline comes in tins and twist up sticks.  This particular brand has a screw lid opening and closing.  Vaseline is a solid & smooth balm, and does not require much heat to melt.  This particular brand is “enriched with champagne grape extract”.

  • Suitability

Figs and Rouge is cruelty free and does not test on animals..  Their products however can contain cera alba (which is derived from beeswax) so it is not suitable for vegetarians/vegans.  They are certified by the Soil Association.

Vaseline is made of petroleum jelly which is a by-product of the oil industry and it is debatable as to whether it contains animal by-products. Unilever (the company) is NOT cruelty free.

  • Benefits

Figs and Rouge use 100% organic plant oils to moisturise & condition skin, naturally.  Plant oils have been used for years on the skin.

Vaseline can act as a barrier to prevent moisture loss and can be used as a barrier for cuts to keep germs out.

  • Negatives

Limonene and linalool found in both products can cause allergic reactions.

Mineral oil found in Vaseline can cause breakouts.

Vaseline can prevent cuts from healing when used as a barrier.

Neither are BUAV approved.
