Hello! It may be possible that I was a bug in a past life – I have more mascaras than I could ever use with just the one pair of eyes.  One mascara I have been using and abusing for months now is the Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume mascara .

Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara - Famous in Japan

Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara

£2.80 – Wilkinsons

They say:

The I love extreme mascara’s “ crazy ” sister – for even more volume! The deep-black, creamy texture covers each individual lash with color and the extra-large plastic brush provides sensational volume. The mascara container is designed in the usual i love-colors, except they’re the other way around – in a cool pink with black lettering. Opthalmologically tested.

I say:

When Essence, the European heavyweight of make up, finally came to the UK, I was one of many desperate to get my little mitts on some of their offerings.  After perusing their extensive line of mascaras, I decided to try the I Love Extreme Crazy Volume mascara as I liked the look of the brush head.  I know, how shallow of me! However, I must award special points to Essence for these helpful photos on their stands.  It means I don’t have to open any up to investigate.   What can I say, I take mascara seriously…

Essence were not lying when they said it was an extra-large brush head; wowza! It’s a lightweight plastic brush with small plastic bristles of varying sizes.  The formulation of this particular mascara is quite wet yet thin; I’ve had this for a few months now *guilty face*  yet it’s not showing any signs of drying out.  Whilst the wetness means instant, visible results, it makes the mascara difficult to apply without mess or clumps.  A light and gentle hand is required to slowly comb through the lashes without overloading.

To me, this mascara gives me more length than volume.  It’s hard to build up volume with the wet formula; too much and my lashes become rather thin and wispy, but too little and I’m grumpy all day.  I would like it if Essence could have a little play around in their laboratories to make the formula just a little less wet, as I worry that those with shorter, thinner lashes may struggle to get this mascara to work for them the way it has for me.  The colour is a decent black pigment; perhaps not as deep as claimed  but it will do.  In terms of wear, it lasts about 8-10 hours with no heavy feeling, crumbling or flaking; perfect for daily day time use. I sometimes get a small amount of smudging in the outer corner of my eye but as the mascara is removed easily with hot water, it doesn’t take much to simply wipe it away when it arises.

Despite these little bugbears, I really do like this mascara.  It gives visible results quickly that I expect from a mascara in the £5-£10 bracket; to get results like these with a mascara that costs £2.80 is something else.  Seriously, this mascara costs less than a meal deal.  Think about that!  I think I’ll be making it my own personal mission to try every mascara from Essence in 2015.

Have you tried anything from Essence?

I’ve never tried this mascara but I love a couple of Essence Mascaras, from the products that I’ve tried from the brand, for me the mascaras are the best! Right now I’m loving the Lash Mania Reloaded and I think it’s the best that I’ve ever tried from Essence! I love the Get Big Lashes range too, they are pretty good!! :)

I really can’t deal with super wet mascara formulas; I was using one by So Susan and unless I kept perfectly still while it dried, I’d end up with more mascara around my eye than on it! This is a great price though xx

  5. I’m not a fan of really wet mascaras, I find that they just don’t work for me. But, for £2.80, you can’t really go wrong, can you?
