The more Japanese varieties of Pocky I try, the more angrier I get at the basic selection we have in England. I’m seriously going to start a petition. *shakes fist at sky* One of the many varieties I would champion to get over here is the wonderful Pocky Midi – Strawberry.
Pocky Midi – Strawberry
I received a box of Pocky Midi – Strawberry in an OyatsuBox. Whilst they did catch my interest initially, it wasn’t enough to make me try them immediately. However, during one of my many “stash sort outs” I decided to finally open them up and review them for you all. My Pocky stash in particular is getting out of hand…
Pocky Midi may be smaller than usual Pocky, but what they lack in size they make up for in the creamy coating. Pocky Midi has twice the amount of coating; this particular variety boasts two layers of strawberry chocolate coating covering a chocolate cookie stick.
It comes in three clear packets, each containing four sticks. On one hand this is cute, but on the other it does remind me of how many sticks I have eaten. *guilty face* At least when it’s all in one foil packet it is blissful ignorance…
When I opened up the packet, I could smell a sweet strawberry scent. I even said “ooh!” out loud!
I did have my worries that the strawberry flavour would be sickly and generic, but I am happy to report that it is anything but. The strawberry coating is amazingly thick and creamy, with a delicate, sweet taste. It actually reminds me of the Meiji Fran – Chocolate Cream in the way the coating feels almost whipped. It is delicious. It’s not too much; it’s just right. The cookie stick has a bit more of a chocolate flavour compared to usual but not so much that it overtakes the strawberry flavour; that is the real star of the show here!
I cannot get over how much I love these. Unlike the original Pocky, these feel more satisfying and filling. It didn’t stop me from eating all three packets though… *wears the cone of shame*
I would definitely buy these again. I would definitely buy this flavour as well as others – is that a chocolate variety I spot?
What’s your favourite Pocky variety?
