Hello! Once again it’s been nearly a month since my last Japanese candy review – why am I so unorganized? To kick off the huge wave of Japanese confectionary posts that will be coming your way (I really mean it this time), I’m sharing the Cororo 100% Juice Grape Texture Gummy with you all today.
I received this unusual bag of gummies in the last Japanese parcel swap with Nicole. Nicole tends to send me a mixture of weird and wonderful sweets, but these have to be the weirdest I have tried… so far!
There isn’t much information on the Internet about these particular gummies; all that I have managed to find so far is that they are “made with 100% Fruit Juice and each gummy has the unique texture of real grapes”.
I never thought I would say this, but I think I would prefer to eat a box of an actual grapes! Let me explain.
To start with, the “skin” around the gummy is a weird taste and texture. It’s not a firm skin like a grape; it’s saggy, and makes me think that the gummy is in a sack of some sort! (Make of that what you will – ha!). It’s also a weird gummy to bite into, as you really have to sink your teeth in to break the skin. The gummy itself isn’t a normal, chewy gummy either. I think it’s a lot softer compared to usual gummies, and to me has more of a jelly-like texture and taste. If we are comparing the gummy to a grape, I would say that the gummy is softer than a grape, and not as firm. They don’t have the exact taste of a grape either; they are sweet in their own way.
I think that these would make a great gift. They are definitely unusual, and definitely something you can only find in Japan! I’m not sure I would go to the trouble of buying them again. They’re not the best gummies I have ever tried. It has taken me so long to eat these, as they’re so sweet you only need to eat a few at a time. I can see what the creators of this gummy were trying to do here, but they’re just not for me.
Would you ever try one of these “grape gummies”?
