Pure Smile Choosy Lip Mask – Peach

Posted in Beauty

Hello! After trying a few sheet masks, and feeling fairly confident that I’ve got the hang of them, it was only right for me to try another Japanese beauty trend – the lip mask!  The Pure Smile Choosy Lip Mask was one of the first items I received from Nicole in our first parcel swap, and I’m not sure why it has taken me so long to try it.  Read on…

Pure Smile Choosy Lip Mask Peach - Famous in Japan

Pure Smile Choosy Lip Mask – Peach

They say:

Contains Vitamin E, Collagen & Hayluronic Acid. Use it for 5 – 30 mins to greatly reduce fine lines and leave your lip moisturized. Your lip is pumped with moisture just after 1 use. This lip mask is a product of Japan Pure Smile and has been produced to the highest quality. With 5 flavors to choose from – they are extremely popular in Japan.

Ingredients:

Water, glycerin (humectant – skin identical ingredient), butylene glycol (humectant), locust bean gum (thickener), xanthan gum (thickener), grape seed oil (possesses regenerative and restructuring qualities), allantoin (skin conditioning/protecting), lactate (lactic acid? – emollient), methylparaben (preservative), carrageenan (thickening agent with water binding properties), hydrolyzed collagen (water binding agent), peach fruit extract (skin conditioning), pomegranate fruit extract (skin conditioning), honey extract (anti-oxidant/anti-inflammatory), roveshbruberry fruit extract (no idea!), jojoba seed oil (skin repairing), β-glucan (anti-irritant/anti-oxidant), kabex (no idea!), PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil (emollient), phenoxyethanol (preservative), polyglutamic acid (skin conditioning), ferric oxide (colouring agent), NIACINAMIDE (Vitamin B3 – multiple skin benefits), Pantothenic acid (enhances appearance), ascorubillin acid (absorbic acid? Vitamic C – anti-oxidant), TOCOPHERYL ACETATE (Vitamin E – anti-oxidant), Pyridoxine HCI (Vitamin B6 – skin conditioning), maltodextrin (binding agent), silica (absorbing agent), octennircohaq starch sodium (no idea!), fragrance, EDTA-2Na (chelating agent), ceramide 3 (moisturising), hyaluronic acid (skin identical/skin repairing).

*I think these ingredients are correct – please correct me if I am wrong.  They are from a Japanese website.

I say:

I have an ongoing love-hate relationship with my lips.  Constantly dried out from central heating, cold air and matte lipsticks, I’m reaching for my pot of Nuxe Reve de Miel more than I should admit to.   The Pure Smile Choosy Lip Mask claims to pump lips with moisture after just one use.  They also claim that it can also help with darkening nipples, but as I don’t have that problem – ha! – I just tried it on the lips.  As I had seen a visible difference with the ETBELLA Food in Mask, I had no qualms or hesitations about giving this a go.

Upon removing the lip mask from the product, I was disappointed to see that there had been some movement and the mask had slipped away from its protective sheets.  This may be down to me having had this for a long time and it having to survive a house move!  Luckily for me, it was still usable.  Despite “Peach” being on the packaging, I couldn’t taste anything.  Seriously, it had no taste at all.   How disappointing!  I was looking forward to a little taste of peach…

The Choosy Lip Mask is a large gel-like mask that covers not only your lips, but also adheres to the skin around your mouth.  Not only does this ensure decent hydration, but it also means that this mask does not fall off.  I found it a lot easier to keep the mask on for a long time compared to a cotton sheet mask – they practically render you immobile!  It’s not sticky nor slimy, but it can move around if you are deliberately prodding and poking it, so leave it alone.

I left it on for a good 30 minutes to give it a fair trial.   Afterwards, my lips actually felt a lot better.  They felt hydrated on a deeper level, not just on the surface.  The dreaded dry (and scabby) patches had disappeared, and on a whole my lips looked and felt so much healthier.    I was honestly surprised at how well it worked.

I have a feeling that lip masks may become yet another addiction for me.    They are sold for about £3-£5 on UK websites, which I think is  a reasonable price to ask for something that works in 30 minutes with results you can see.  I would recommend this to anyone who is feeling and seeing the effects of our temperamental weather on their lips.    I know I will be using more of these lip masks in the future to keep my lips in tip-top condition.  Who knows when I will run into Haruma Miura…?

Have you ever tried a lip mask?

Tried the milk, fruit and honey variants–the fruit was okay, did its job being fairly moisturizing, the milk one is my favorite with such a yummy flavor and fine lip lines actually disappeared for a while, the honey one was so strong–real honey smell, tingling sensation towards the end of 20 mins–omg my lips are so plump i have mistaken them as an allergic reaction!
