MERUMAYA Luxury Facial Wash

After falling in love with the MERUMAYA Melting Cleansing Balm, it wasn’t long before I was exploring the rest of what MERUMAYA had to offer.   I am delighted to share with you all today my thoughts on the MERUMAYA Luxury Facial Wash.

I say:

One thing that I struggle with in my skincare routine is finding a cleanser suitable for my morning cleanse.  It’s hard to find a balance between a product that can cleanse effectively without drying my skin out.   I became so disheartened with finding a suitable product that I ended up relying on micellar water to wipe away the night’s grime.    Yes… I know. *hangs head in shame*  Whilst this might have been sufficient enough as a short term fix, with long term use I could see congestion quickly building up in my skin, and I could see deterioration in the longevity of my make up.  My face was fed up.

As much as I loved the MERUMAYA Melting Cleansing Balm,  it wasn’t suitable for my skin as a morning cleanse, and I stated that in my review.  MERUMAYA spotted this, and kindly sent me the Luxury Facial Wash for me to try out.  I have been using this product every day for the past 4 weeks and I now feel able to share with you all my thoughts.

The MERUMAYA Luxury Facial Wash is a product designed for blemish-prone yet mature skin.  Unfortunately spots do not just affect teenagers, and the majority of the blemish treatments on the high street today are marketed at young skins.  The treatments can often be stripping and irritating, which is not ideal for mature skin that needs a gentle touch.  The brains behind MERUMAYA put their heads together and formulated a gentle, yet effective product that would not only treat blemishes immediately, but would also continue to treat them in the long term.  Whilst I don’t suffer with blemishes as badly as I used to, as I am on a hormone based contraceptive, I do suffer with oily patches, areas of congestion and the occasional blemish caused by stress/bad diet.

I use this face wash a little differently to what is the normal way.  What I do is thoroughly wet my face with water first,  and then squeeze out a pea sized amount of the facial wash on to my clean hands.  I lather it up in my hands, which I then apply to my face and massage.   I find that adding water really helps the product to lather up.   The lather produced is soft, and it doesn’t drag or pull on my skin.    MERUMAYA recommend using this product in conjunction with a facial brush and whilst I didn’t have theirs to hand, it worked really well with my Magnitone.   You genuinely do not need to use a lot of this product for it to work as the magic is in adding water to the product to produce the lather.   I have to thank the Japanese magazines I have for the skincare advice that using the lather of a foaming product is more effective than applying the product directly and then lathering.

Afterwards, my skin feels SO clean and refreshed.  It isn’t drying, but I will be honest and admit that it can make my face feel a little tight.  This doesn’t concern me too much as firstly this is a product aimed at oily skin, and mine is combination at the moment, and secondly it is a similar feeling to how my skin feels after a good clay face mask.  As soon as I pop on a moisturiser or a BB cream the tight feeling goes and my skin feels clean, bouncy and ready to take on the day.  My face also feels smooth, almost as if I exfoliated, due to the ingredients included that promote skin renewal such as pomegranate enzymes and citric acid.   But that’s not all.  There is also the AC.Net™ treatment formulated by MERUMAYA that promises to “reduce the appearance of pores, control spots and oil, whilst providing moisture“.  We also have Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract providing anti-oxidant protection as well as encouraging skin renewal and the production of collagen.

I have loved using this as a morning cleanser.   It washes away the grime and oil and prepares my skin for the day.  I have noticed a significant reduction in the congestion of my cheeks, and my blackheads and open pores have been reduced in size.  Whilst they haven’t completely disappeared,  they are no longer as noticeable and I feel over time they will reduce in size even further.   I am also pleased to say that I haven’t suffered any irritation, dry patches or flaking skin from the use of this product.  I should also point out that I haven’t had suffered any blemishes in the 4 weeks I have been using this product, even though I have spent the majority of that time eating my body weight in Mini Eggs and overdosing on dairy products.  I definitely won’t be going back to using micellar water as my morning cleanse, that’s for sure.

I can see myself repurchasing the Luxury Facial Wash in the future, although with the small amount needed each time it will be a while before I need to.  This is the morning cleanser my skin has been crying out for, and I know in the long term the results are only going to get better.

I have to say that the more I read up on MERUMAYA, their core values and their ethics the more I fall in love with the brand.  MERUMAYA believe in skincare that is scientifically formulated to produce instant and long term results.   Money is spent on ingredients and research, and less on fancy packaging and profits.    In a world where even breakfasts feel the wrath of Instagram filters, it’s so refreshing to have a brand champion a message like the #beautyhasnoage campaign.  The campaign encourages women to dispel the notion that your worth declines with age, and that you are beautiful exactly as you are – wrinkles or no wrinkles.  Do I sound like a fan girl?  I’m not even sorry.

What do you like to use as your morning cleanse?

This sounds brilliant! I love a gel-type face wash for my morning cleanse, I’m using an Una Brennan one at the moment but I think I’ll try this next – I’ve never been disappointed with a Merumaya product yet!!

I tend to ditch foaming cleansers in winter, but once the weather warms up I’ll be digging this back out of my stash. I have the brush and it goes really nicely with the cleanser xx
