Never mind red lipsticks, I have more mascaras than sense lately! It’s beginning to get a little ridiculous in my make up drawer so prepare yourself for an onslaught of mascara reviews. First up, it is the ever so hyped Maybelline The Rocket Mascara.
Maybelline The Rocket Mascara – £7.99
Explosive Volume in Rocket Time! 6X Bigger. Smoother. Even. Now, the most explosive, beautiful lashes ever! Volum’ Express The Rocket Mascara’s patented Supersonic Brush with micro bristles loads on big, sleek volume instantly. Our fast-glide formula keeps lashes smooth. Zero clumps!
Did anyone else read that in the voice from the advert? Spooky!
I remember when this product first launched; everyone was all up in its grill ( #gettingdownwiththekids) whilst I was a little unsure. There are only so many promises you can make about a mascara and it won’t be long before Maybelline claim one of their mascaras could halt climate change by absorbing the carbon dioxide you exhale and converting it back into oxygen. After review after review, I gave into blogger peer pressure and purchased it from Superdrug for probably about £5.99 on a promotional offer.
Whilst this mascara gives a decent amount of length and separation, I find it lacking on the volume front. Without being awkward, I find myself a little underwhelmed by this mascara. My lashes look long, yes, but they feel very thin and spidery. I do agree with Maybelline that it doesn’t clump, but I think this is down to the formula being quite “wet” and generally quite thin. For the results above and below, I do have to layer it on quite a bit and go over the lashes a few times with the brush.
As far as longevity goes, it does quite well and I personally would recommend that you use this one as opposed to the waterproof formulas. I don’t particularly like Maybelline’s waterproof versions as it practically requires the blood of your first born son to come off – they are that strong! *shudders at past experiences of Maybelline waterproof mascaras*
Whilst the mascara does give good separation and length, I still feel that it is one of Maybelline’s weakest mascaras. For some reason, I just can’t take to it and I don’t think it would be one I would rush out to repurchase. And to all those people saying it’s a Benefit They’re Real Dupe… no. It’s not. (*facepalm*)
