balance Me Tinted Lip Salve

Posted in Beauty

I have an overwhelming urge to capitalise the “b” in balance Me but I must resist!  Anywho, meticulousness aside, here are my thoughts of the balance Me Tinted Lip Salve, as promised.

They say:

We have created an exquisite blend of oils to soften and nourish, including virgin coconut oil, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, castor oil and sweet almond oil. These oils provide the extra staying power for the salve, keeping your lips glossy and maintaining the colour. The colour tint is formulated with natural mineral make-up, designed to deliver strong colours, and is an exclusive blend of mica, titanium dioxide and iron oxide. The beautiful aroma of the salve is 100% pure natural essential oils, so is subtle and sophisticated without being overpowering.

Ingredient Analysis:

Prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil (protects, improves skin’s barrier), Lanolin (emollient, skin repairing/identical), Ricinus communis (castor) oil*** (skin conditioning), Cocus nucifera (virgin coconut) oil*** (skin conditioning), Cera alba (beeswax) (emollient), Butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter***(skin conditioning), citrus reticulata (mandarin red)*(essential oil), Rosa canina (rosehip) fruit oil (hydrates/moisturises), Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil (easily absorbed, treats skin conditions), Mangifera indica (mango) seed butter (skin conditioning), Theobroma cacao (cocoa) butter (skin conditioning), citrus paradisi (grapefruit) (essential oil)*, Tocopherol (vitamin E – antioxidant), Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) extract (anti-oxidant, skin conditioning), citrus limon (lemon) (essential oil)*, Mica (mineral – adds shimmer), Titanium dioxide (emulsifier), Red iron oxide (colouring agents), Limonene** (essential oil), Linalool** (essential oil), Citral** (essential oil)   *natural pure essential oil    **naturally occurring in essential oils    ***certified organic ingredient.

I say:

I was one of those people who cornered the magazine stand, rifling through the copies of Glamour to pick out each of the free balance Me gifts.  At the time of that magazine, these tinted lip salves were exclusive to Glamour.  It seems balance Me realised they were on to a winner and have made them available once again, this time online.  They do state they are limited edition, but I see no reason why they can’t join the balance Me family full time.

The balance Me Tinted Lip Salve boasts to be of 100% natural origin, with ingredients such as sweet almond oil, coconut oil and shea butter to name a few.   A quick scan of these ingredients told me instantly that this lip salve was going to nourish and hydrate my lips quickly, but it would also help to keep them moisturised over time.  But…. I will point out that this does contain animal derived ingredients – lanolin and beeswax. Lanolin comes from the wool of sheep, and beeswax is obtained from honeycombs. #knowledge

The product itself is of a nice consistency, not thin enough to drip off your kisser and not too thick in that you look like you’ve been scoffing sticky buns.  The mica ingredient provides a slight shimmer and the red iron oxide gives the slight tint of colour – note the emphasis on slight!  It’s definitely not the “raspberry” colour I imagined but considering it sorted out my scabby lips in a few days I’m not complaining!  As it is heavy in oil ingredients, the salve is absorbed easily and with continued and regular use my lips were beginning to look rather lovely – healthy, plump and soft.

My only bugbear with this lip salve is that I think that this salve won’t be enough to protect against the very harsh cold weather we are having (it’s freeeezing!)… but I wonder if we all ask nicely, will balance Me make a balm version? *flutters eyelashes*

I’ve being using this all week and whilst I like it I do think I need something thicker as the moisture doesn’t stay very long.
